President of growing marketing firm honored at Sept. 19 ceremony
COLUMBIA, Md., Sept. 22, 2014 – The Howard County Chamber of Commerce has given its most prestigious annual award to the leader of one of the county’s fastest-growing marketing firms.
Duane Carey accepted the Business Person of the Year award at the Chamber’s annual Signature Event on Sept. 19, surrounded by staff, clients, and his fellow Chamber members.
Carey is President at IMPACT Marketing & Public Relations, LLC, which he has built into a successful and consistently growing company by focusing on an important rule: “If it’s good for the client, it’s good for us.”
What started nearly ten years ago in Carey’s basement is now a flourishing firm with clients in six states. IMPACT’s focus on the client drives every decision made by the eight-person team as they provide marketing strategy, social media, website services, branding, advertising, and public relations.
“Our clients consider us their outsourced chief marketing officers,” said Carey.
Carey is recognized in the local business community for his tenacity and his success in achieving consistent business growth even during difficult economic times. Since 2005, he has helped IMPACT
• win multiple large contracts, including the opportunity to manage and serve as the staff for Maryland Business for Responsive Government (MBRG) and
• win multiple Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) awards, including 2013 Best Website in Maryland for a client’s website.
IMPACT’s client base comprises primarily professional services firms, including various law, financial, and medical practices. The company also supports well-known local brands including Joe Corbi’s Pizza, The Melting Pot Restaurant, and the Howard County Public School System.
Carey joined the Chamber immediately after starting his business and quickly became an active participant as a way to advance one of his passions: championing business owners and a pro-growth economy.
Carey’s Chamber service includes these achievements:
• eight years on the Board of Directors;
• one year as Board Chair (2012-2013);
• founding member of the Young Professionals Network of Howard County; and
• member of the leadership team that launched GovConnects program.
“At least half of our best, longest-tenured clients are direct results of Chamber connections,” said Carey. “Not to mention, I have met some of my best friends because of my involvement with the Chamber.”
Carey is dedicated to and has served as a board member for Shari’s Promise, an organization that fights child sexual abuse. He also serves on the Howard Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.
As he pursues his own success and works to educate and empower other business people, Carey encourages his team to follow a second important rule: “If we’re not having fun, we need to do something else.”
